Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health or related field required; BSW or MSW preferred

This position will be expected to work with youth to employ coping skills and teach youth techniques to calm and/or de-escalate behaviors. Engage with youth on one-on-one basis to identify strengths and needs as well as identify triggers that tend to escalate youth’s behaviors. Specialist will work with youth to develop a behavior management plan they can implement independently or with prompting from Specialist or staff. Identify maladaptive behaviors and teach youth skills to promote adaptive, pro-social behaviors. Specialist will observe behaviors of youth and intervene when initial signs of escalation are identified in order to avoid intense reaction. Specialist will assist youth in utilizing identified strategies to return to a calm and regulated state. Specialist will utilize de-escalation skills when youth becomes agitated and aggressive to defuse the situation. We are using the category Behavior Analyst for this position; however, we are looking for staff with at least a bachelor’s (master’s if preferred) to fulfill the duties that were outlined in the description for this position.  This position will not be practicing in the role as an Applied Behavior Analyst.  This position is to work with all youth that are placed in the transitional home setting that are awaiting longer term placement to assist in teaching youth coping skills, resiliency, and intervening to aid in de-escalation.
