Position Responsibilities
The Utah State Department of Government Operations / Division of Technology Services (DTS) is looking for
an experienced PostgreSQL and MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) for services running on AWS RDS
Aurora , Windows Server and Linux. The incumbent will provide database maintenance, support and system
administration for various applications.

Job Description
The Utah State Department of Government Operations / Division of Technology Services (DTS) is looking for
an experienced PostgreSQL and MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) for services running on AWS RDS
Aurora , Windows Server and Linux. The incumbent will provide database maintenance, support and system
administration for various applications.
Example of Duties
● Help with the database designs and development for applications based upon user requirements and
specifications provided by the Business Technical Lead
● Build, migrate and maintain databases for on-premise and Amazon Web Services (AWS) systems
● Convert Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server application databases in AWS to open source options where
possible
● Assist the Technical Project Lead in addressing technical issues
● Develop technical database documentation
● Submit all test and production turnovers to Project Technical Lead to be installed
● Assist application developers with complex query development and tuning
● Create database tables, indexes, constraints and other database components and functions.
● Design, implement and enforce strong security structures and mechanisms for databases.
● Automate database maintenance tasks using administrative tools and scripts.
● Create and update data schematics and dictionary structures to document and describe system
databases, interfaces and security.
● Assess and apply database optimization and performance tuning methods.
● Design, create, install and manage automated databases, data reports and chronological report runs.
● Perform data validation to test the integrity of data, database relationships, calculations, references and
data reports.
● Participate in the development of system database standards and development processes.
● Interact with and supports project leaders and teams, business analysts and users in analysis, design
and testing processes on projects.
● Coordinate with DevOps and business on database installations, upgrades, releases, problem
solutions, and technical architecture changes.
● Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
● 5+ years of professional experience developing and managing computer system databases.
● 3+ years of professional experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL. Additional experience with Microsoft
SQL Server or Oracle is desirable.
● Knowledgeable in performance schema, slow query log, and scheduler.
● Proficient in tuning with wait events for Aurora PostgreSQL and scheduler.
● Knowledge and professional experience with SQL, PL/pgSQL, AWS CLI, Python, Powershell, BASH,
and other scripting languages.
● Understanding and professional experience with cloud services, with AWS Database Specialty
certification preferred
● System administration skills are desired
● Good analysis and research skills required
