REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE# YEARS
Proven work experience as a Database administrator7
Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications7
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL7
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically7
Familiarity with continuous integration7
Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding7
Strong hands-on Experience with the Oracle RMAN Backup and Restore, Export and Import Data Pump utilities7
Optimization of SQL queries and stored procedures7
Leverage tools like OEM, AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Tuning Advisor, SQL Plan Baselines7
Experience with Exadata, Oracle Cloud, Linux/Unix shell scripting, crontab, Oracle Enterprise Manager and TOAD7
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically7

Preference given to candidates with the below skills/experience. Must also meet minimum requirements.
Experience with student information management systems and K-12 data and reporting is a plus
PL/SQL
Experience with MS SQL

PROJECT DETAILSThe Mississippi Department of Education has a current goal for every community to effectively use a World-Class Data System to improve student outcomes. This goal has an outcome to increase the availability of quality data to drive decisions that improve student outcomes. We are planning to satisfy this goal in part by modernizing our current student information system along with improving the quality of data in connected systems. This will include keeping the database up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.

JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position will require a qualified Developers to take the lead in the following tasks:
•Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialized role
•Monitor the database environment to maximize database availability ensuring response time service levels are achieved.
•Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
•Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
•Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
•Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and upgrade to newer versions when required
•Assist development staff, IT Support, various business units with debugging and assist in implementing database applications
•Knowledge of Unix, Linux basic commands, crontab, sudo
•Perform other duties as assigned and required
