Description:

FL-DOH-Chattahoochee-LPN – This facility operates 24/7. Candidate may be required to work 16 hr shift as needed
FL-DOH-Chattahoochee-LPN – Candidates will need to attend an full two week orientation, working Monday – Friday, 8am – 4:30pm
WORK ENVIORNMENT: This is a State of Florida Psychiatric Hospital which operates 24/7, 7 days a week. It currently has 223 buildings on campus with a capacity of 1,042 patients. The hospital’s current Administration Building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
TYPE OF PATIENTS: Two categories of patients are treated at the hospital; those civilly committed under Statute 394, who represent a small portion of the hospital’s residents; and those forensically committed under Statute 916. The Civil portion of the hospital houses adult and elderly individuals who have been civilly committed to the hospital, and forensic residents who have been "stepped down" to the civil unit. The civil units are also known as Forensic Transition units.
Forensic ward entry has security guards and a metal detector.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
* Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
* One year of nursing experience, strongly preferred.
* Must be CPR certified, or able to complete training.
* Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
* Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs., remain alert while on duty, and work 16-hour shifts on occasion.
CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assess resident complaints and determine action, notifying supervisor when necessary.
* Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
* Administer oral and/or injectable medication and controlled medications in accordance with facility policy, and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
* Observe for side effects or adverse effects to medication and report to assigned supervisor, or further assessment and treatment.
* Prepare paperwork as required for consults within facility and outside appointments.
* Coordinate residents’ appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as need for resident movement to and from the unit.
* Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice as defined by facility and Florida law and notifying supervisor for further assistance.
* Complete incident reports factually and objectively, within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
* Complete progress notes on resident care within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
* Advocate for residents’ recovery and safety.
* Maintain appropriate and professional behavior during interactions with residents’, supervisors, and other staff members.
* Display professionalism throughout employment including, but not limited to, arriving to work on time, maintaining an accurate timesheet, and maintaining professional appearance as defined by facility policy.
