(INCUMBENT) Cloud Solution Architect with performance, security, interoperability, legacy modernization, agile, CEDS and K-12 Education experience

REQUIRED DEGREE A Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university;
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university;

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE # YEARS
Experience developing IT solutions for a diverse set of clients and technology platforms, including cloud infrastructure, with an understanding of the wide array of tools/services available in the public cloud offerings 7
Experience in modern software engineering and modern design architecture 7
Experience with creating and maintaining technical documentation and standard operating procedures 7
Experience with and understanding of best practices in enterprise IT Functions: Application Development, Data Management, Infrastructure, Security and Project Management 7
Experience leading, managing or coordinating the development of the overall technical vision for IT solutions in the context of enterprise IT functions. 7
Experience in designing a successful cloud adoption strategy, including performance, security, and interoperability, while identifying technical and security risks and proposing mitigation strategies 7

Preference given to candidates with the below skills/experience. Must also meet minimum requirements.
Experience with state education agencies or in the K-12 education technology field
Experience with modernization of large-scale legacy applications
Experience with agile development and project methodologies
Knowledge and experience with Common Education Data Standards (CEDS)

PROJECT DETAILS
The Mississippi Department of Education has a current goal for every community to effectively use a World-Class Data System to improve student outcomes. This goal has an outcome to increase the availability of quality data to drive decisions that improve student outcomes. We are planning to satisfy this goal in part by modernizing our current student information system along with improving the quality of data in connected systems. This will include web-based application development, and creation of dashboards and reports that will improve access, accuracy and ease of use for all stakeholders.

JOB DESCRIPTION SCOPE OF WORK
The preferred candidate will serve as a Solutions Architect for a variety of system enhancements and modernizations for a statewide student data system and supporting applications. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team. Ability to work under severe time constraints. Must possess analytical and complex problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, human relations skills and time management skills.

Responsibilities will include:
● Analyze current state of IT solutions and suggest improvements
● Design IT solutions, including data structure and storage, user interface technologies, deployment, testing, security, and infrastructure considerations
● Provide detailed documentation of proposed solutions
● Work closely with project management team to plan and monitor activities related to IT projects
● Collaborate with the CIO and other IT Staff in developing and implementing strategic and technical plans for new technologies and IT initiatives, including but not limited to: migration from legacy systems, new software and hardware applications, and systems integration projects.
