Technical Specialist – Business Intelligence and Data Engineer
PLEASE NOTE: This position is hybrid and requires 3 days per week onsite in Raleigh, NC at the start of the engagement. This requirement is non-negotiable.
This position will support efforts in data engineering, business intelligence, and data analytics and reporting across the varied business departments at the City.
This position will provide providing senior level data analysis and development of solutions that transform data into actionable and consumable information. This individual will work as part of a team to develop data pipelines, intermediate and final dimensional models, and SSAS/Power BI datasets as part of the City’s Enterprise Data Warehouse solution. The business intelligence platform includes Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI Premium, and CData Sync. Data sources include a variety of sources and applications including PeopleSoft, CityWorks, SAP SuccessFactors, and other applications leveraging MS SQL Server, Oracle, or SaaS-based delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not intended to be all inclusive):
•Design, build and deploy dimensional models and ETL pipelines
•Design, build and deploy curated Power BI datasets from dimension models or SSAS tabular models
•Collect, organize, analyze and disseminate large data sets with attention to detail and accuracy.
•Contribute knowledge and documentation to growing our data analysis community in the City.
•Collaborate with members of the business, project teams and IT staff as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above.
•All other job-related duties as it relates to the job function or as delegated by the management team.
Knowledge:
•Enterprise Data Warehousing and dimensional modeling best practices
•Data transformation processes and ETL tools, including SSIS and scripted pipelines with Python, SQL, and/or PowerShell
•Data security best practices and regulatory compliance standards (PCI DDS, HIPPA, CJIS, FISMA) is a plus
•Broad knowledge of business intelligence, analytics, dashboards and reporting tools used to process structured and unstructured data.
•Ability to translate business needs into technical specifications to design, build and deploy business analysis solutions.
Skills:
•Expert knowledge with T-SQL and dimensional modeling
•Experienced in ETL development. Experience with Python is a plus
•Experience working in a Data Warehousing environment
•Experience with Git and other tools for version control and development/deployment automation
•Active listening and critical thinking.
•Ability to communicate and work with business subject matter experts and organizational leadership.
•Ability to communicate technical information well, both written and oral, and make effective public presentations.
