REQUIRED DEGREE Bachelor’s degree

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE # YEARS
Proven work experience as a Database administrator 7
Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications 7
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL 7
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically 7
Familiarity with continuous integration 7
Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding 7
Strong hands-on Experience with the Oracle RMAN Backup and Restore, Export and Import Data Pump utilities 7
Optimization of SQL queries and stored procedures 7
Leverage tools like OEM, AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Tuning Advisor, SQL Plan Baselines 7
Experience with Exadata, Oracle Cloud, Linux/Unix shell scripting, crontab, Oracle Enterprise Manager and TOAD 7
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically 7

Preference given to candidates with the below skills/experience. Must also meet minimum requirements.
Experience with student information management systems and K-12 data and reporting is a plus
PL/SQL
Experience with MS SQL

PROJECT DETAILS
The Mississippi Department of Education has a current goal for every community to effectively use a World-Class Data System to improve student outcomes. This goal has an outcome to increase the availability of quality data to drive decisions that improve student outcomes. We are planning to satisfy this goal in part by modernizing our current student information system along with improving the quality of data in connected systems. This will include keeping the database up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position will require a qualified Developers to take the lead in the following tasks:
• Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialized role
• Monitor the database environment to maximize database availability ensuring response time service levels are achieved.
• Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
• Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
• Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
• Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and upgrade to newer versions when required
• Assist development staff, IT Support, various business units with debugging and assist in implementing database applications
• Knowledge of Unix, Linux basic commands, crontab, sudo
• Perform other duties as assigned and required
