o Review the TXschool.gov School Finder, Overview and Performance, and homepage prototype (as of 9/1/2021) against previous research with Texas parents to identify evidence based improvements that could be made prior to user testing.
o Prioritize the indicators that will be included on the school Finder, Overview and Performance, and homepage and develop recommendations for taxonomy for the domains and parent-friendly descriptors.
o Recommend a hierarchy and organization based on 2018 research that illustrates the information that is most important to parents.
o Provide counsel on data visualization, and info-graphics.
o In collaboration with the TEA team, develop a screener to randomly recruit 12 parents to participate in virtual In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) to test for QA of School Finder, Overview and Performance, and homepage prototypes.
o Use the screener to randomly recruit 12 parents from across the state with diversity across grade-span, race, ethinicy, and geography of the state. (4 interviews with Spanish speaking parents, 4 with African American, and 4 with White parents)
*Mix of rural, small town, suburban, urban. (4 IDIs each)
*Mix of grade-spans (4 elementary, 4 middle school, 4 high school)
*Mix of race/ethnicity (3 White, 4 African American, 2 English/Spanish speaking Hispanic, 3 English speaking Hispanic)
o In collaboration with TEA, draft and finalize the moderator guide for interviews. Moderator guide to include questions that will glean parent’s reactions to the language, usability/functionality and design/graphics for the School Finder, Overview and Performance, and homepage.
o Conduct and complete round of 12 interviews with parents to get their reactions to the language, usability/functionality and design/graphics for the following. TEA members will join, and interviews will be recorded to share with TEA. Simultaneously translate Spanish language IDIs.
o Analyze and summarize findings from IDIs and develop a comprehensive deck of key findings and take-aways to be presented to TEA.
o Develop evidence based recommendations for changes to language, taxonomy, and visuals including implications for longer term communication strategy based on findings.
o Present comprehensive findings and implications to TEA, as well as recommendations for improvement to visuals, usability and language (finidings to be in a format usable and savable by TEA).
