The Systems Administrator will maintain, upgrade and provide support for clients software, hardware, and networks. The Systems Administrator needs to be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly be available to respond to help desk requests after hours. The individual should be able easily to communicate technical concerns and solutions to many different people with varying degrees of technical knowledge as well as work with individuals in all department to help solve their technical issues. The Systems Administrator is also responsible for maintaining our system infrastructure, including testing computer equipment, backing up databases, installing and updating malware software, installing and rebuilding existing servers as well as other processes.

Education:

Min: High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred:
An Associate’s degree or the equivalent number of college credit hours towards a Bachelor’s degree. However, relevant experience beyond that required for the position can be substituted for the educational requirement.
Certifications: Microsoft Certified Engineer (MCSE), VMWare Virtual Certified Professional (VCP), or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCITP).

Other: While infrequent and rare, the twenty-four-hour scope of the department requires this position to be available evenings, nights, and weekends to respond to calls regarding questions or problems with the University’s computing systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Participate in the planning and design of services and systems.
2. Identify and implement technologies that allow for appropriate growth and expansion of systems environment and services that OIT provides to the University Community.
3. Proactively monitor systems to ensure maximum performance and availability.
4. Design, implement, and maintain servers, storage, and associated hardware and software to provide services to campus customers.
5. Coordinate with the technical points of contact to migrate services and data.
6. Update existing infrastructure to the latest version applications, operating systems and firmware.
7. Oversee the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server environment.
8. Coordinate with the technical points of contact to ensure specialized software and applications are kept up to date and changes to University systems are prepared for.
9. Operate in an environment that requires confidentiality of information.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Extensive demonstrated knowledge of server and network systems installation, administration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting, and the theories, concepts, principles, models, methods, and tools associated with each.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of server and network security, network architecture, and new and emerging IT and client-server technologies.
4. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and work both independently and as a team member.
5. Demonstrated ability to generate and adapt equipment and technology to serve user requirements.
6. Ability to perform site surveys and identify requirements necessary for system definition and utilization.
7. Ability to perform research, analyze results, draft requirements, and formulate technology solutions.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical matters, both verbally and in writing, to end users who have varied levels of understanding of subject matters.
9. Experience setting up hardware and providing instructional directions in the use of such.
10. Extensive experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems, and replacing defective components, as required.
12. Experience performing hardware maintenance and software upgrades.
14. Experience providing technical assistance to developers and other IT personnel to facilitate utilization/maintenance of new and existing systems.
16. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows based server environments and services (i.e. Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and Exchange Server)

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with Storage Area Networks (iSCSI), VMware, ADFS, SQL, or SharePoint.
2. Previous experience working in a Server environment.
3. Previous experience with PowerShell scripting or other scripting languages.
