Hands on networking experience (routing and switching) Required 2 Years
Experience with networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, HSRP, VTP, etc. Required 2 Years
Direct experience required in the management and administration of network infrastructure – firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, etc. Required 2 Years
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP required Required 2 Years
Experience with the use and implementation of enterprise monitoring and management software, such as SolarWinds, Nagios, Cacti, etc. Required 2 Years
Candidate must have extensive experience working in structured change management processes for highly available networks. Required 2 Years
Firewall/security experience (e.g., access control list (ACL) management, secure remote access, IDS/IPS, etc.) Required 2 Years
Experience in network traffic analysis and network-level forensics based on log events and packet capture data Required 2 Years
Experience in load balancer configuration, troubleshooting and resolution. Required 2 Years
Experience on public/private clouds Required 2 Years

The North Carolina Department of Revenue has a need for a Junior Network Engineer. This position will be responsible for daily network operations and firewall changes, possibly involving external vendors and multiple business areas.

The Junior Network Engineer will:
• 2+ years of hands on networking experience (routing and switching) is required
• Team player: Will be working closely with 3-5 other people on a 24x7x365 basis
• Create/maintain/improve network support documentation and processes
• Recommend and perform upgrades on systems to ensure uptime
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation
• Contribute to planning, testing and responding to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery events
• Ensure the infrastructure is properly monitored within set thresholds and that alerts regarding network outages are addressed in a timely manner
• Troubleshoot and repair network-related problems, system failures, switching/routing, etc.
• Identify/diagnose network configuration and/or performance irregularities. Develop procedures to respond to these irregularities in a timely manner
• Provide timely issue resolutions by evaluating, tracking, escalating, managing of all requests/problems reported
• Drive project work to completion

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies desired:
• 1-3 years’ experience with networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, HSRP, VTP, etc.
• 1-3 years direct experience required in the management and administration of network infrastructure – firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, etc. – in a high-availability infrastructure on a 24x7x365 basis
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP required
• Experience with the use and implementation of enterprise monitoring and management software, such as SolarWinds, Nagios, Cacti, etc.
• Candidate must have extensive experience working in structured change management processes for highly available networks.
• Firewall/security experience (e.g., access control list (ACL) management, secure remote access, IDS/IPS, etc.)
• Experience in network traffic analysis and network-level forensics based on log events and packet capture data
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, conducive to team development
• Experience in load balancer configuration, troubleshooting and resolution.
• Experience on public/private clouds is a plus
• Formal hardware training and/or certifications from one or more of the following vendors: Cisco Systems (CCNA, CCNP), Juniper Networks (JNCIA, JNCIS), Citrix, F5 Networks
