Must have valid Driver’s License. Must be willing to do overnight travel to State Park areas. Required
Ability to troubleshoot and isolate client issues Required 5 Years
Ability to understand, define and document telecommunications system requirements. Required 5 Years
Working knowledge of Wi-Fi Standards 802.11a,b,g,n,ac and Ethernet networking standards 802.3 Required 5 Years
Experience installing or supporting networking equipment (modems, routers, switches, wireless access points, POE switches, etc.) Required 5 Years
Basic understanding of network cables to include making Ethernet cablings (RJ11,RJ45, Cat5,Cat5e,Cat6,Coax). Required 5 Years
Experience installing, terminating, testing and labeling cables. Required 5 Years
Ability to safely work on rooftops, climb ladders, and navigate confined spaces Required
Experience with simple cable installation,including wall boxes and plates Required 5 Years

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position will be responsible for installing and maintaining networking and Wi-Fi equipment, and facilitating the expansion of Wi-Fi coverage at designated DCR locations. Will be responsible for researching connectivity options for DCR locations across the state, including the 37 Virginia State Parks.

Travel Reimbursement: DCR provides the accommodations for any work related travel to the parks (cabins, lodges, etc.) and they will be driving a state vehicle. If there are any other incidentals, they will directly reimburse the individual through their expense reporting process.

Will evaluate broadband and cellular service offerings for each location and make recommendations to improve and expand connectivity. Will provide guidance to agency staff on telecommunications related topics. Will support specification, installation and testing of computers, computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. May support agency staff in the use of computer hardware and software and any related technology not provided by VITA. Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.

Responsibilities Include:
– Identifying connectivity (broadband and cellular) challenges within individual State parks – this includes travel to Parks and meetings with Parks staff.
– Installation and maintenance of networking and Wi-Fi equipment.
– Coordinating meetings with Park staff and connectivity providers to identify solutions to connectivity challenges.
– Prioritizing connectivity needs and projects.
– Working with DCR IT and Parks staff to implement connectivity solutions and maintain those solutions once implemented.
– May be required to support PC’s and associated peripherals at state parks on an as needed basis.
