Skill Required :

Extensive experience in customer support, including problem definition and resolution for both network hardware and software Required 7 Years
Extensive experience with Cisco router and switches and Aruba wireless technologies Required 5 Years
Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (ex. SolarWinds network tools, PRTG etc.) Required 3 Years
Strong knowledge and experience configuring DNS and DHCP Required 5 Years
In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF) Required 5 Years
Extensive experience administering campus/organization LAN/WAN environment, including wireless access points Highly desired 5 Years

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the general supervision by the Director of Technical Services, Norfolk State University’s Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for contributing to the development and delivery of a comprehensive networking environment architecture for the University.

This architecture serves as the high speed backbone for network services that meet the operational, academic, social, and research needs of NSU faculty, staff and students.
The program has multiple purposes, including: to assure network operability and utilization by its authorized users, it’s usage in accordance with its intended purpose; to protect NSU information and its infrastructure from external or internal threats; to assure that NSU complies with statutory and regulatory requirements regarding network management.

DAY TO DAY:

• Design and deploy functional wired/wireless campus networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
• Select, install and maintain the hardware and software necessary to operate the campus network infrastructure and provide related network services.
• Monitor network performance and integrity
• Resolve issues escalated from lower tiers by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
• Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
• Provide leadership to team members
• Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
• Communicate with users when needed
• Maintain complete technical documentation
• Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent combination of education, experience and training

• Strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to present technical information in a user-friendly manner
• Solid background in network administration and architecture
• Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS, Dell OS10)
